Similar to the March sale, Ocala Breeders’ Sale will offer a Second Chance sale for the Spring Two‐Year‐Olds in Training sale.

This OBSOnline Spring Second Chance Sale will be a Timed Auction for horses that performed in the under tack show then
scratched or did not meet reserve through the ring in the live sale.

  • Entries close 4/21 and the sale will be held 4/24 – 4/28. Where bidding will begin at noon on 4/24 and the hips will begin to
    close on 4/28 at noon.
  • The online entry portal will be open starting Friday, April 17th. Contact the OBS office to exercise this option.
  • Entry fee is $500.
  • Commission:
    • For horses that scratched from the Spring Sale‐‐Sold Horses: 5% of final bid. Unsold Horses: 5% of final bid up to
      $50,000, plus 2 ½% in excess of $50,000 (minimum commission is $1,000)
    • For horses that were RNA’s in the Spring Sale ‐‐ No commission. Commission already charged on the RNA price
      from the live Spring sale.

Other Important Information:

  • Horses will retain their consignor and hip number.
  • Media (under tack video, walking video) will be used from the Spring sale. If a walking video was not supplied in the Spring
    sale, it is required for the Second Chance sale. Consignors may add one additional video no longer than 30 seconds.
  • Repository information (radiographs, videoscopes, etc.) will be used from the Spring sale. If not supplied for the Spring sale,
    they are required for the Second Chance sale. Consignors may elect to have their radiograph reports displayed on the horse’s
    detail page. Contact the OBS office to exercise this option.
  • Due to the compressed time frame quickly after the live sale, when entering your horses please be sure to include;
    • Address for the location where the horses will be during the Timed auction in the event a buyer wants to inspect a
      horse.
    • Name, phone number and email address for the contact person for the consignment or the person that will
      communicate with potential buyers.
    • Let us know if you wish to have your radiograph report included on the horse’s detail page. Please note, we will not be
      able to track who is viewing the reports with this option as they will be available to the public to view.

In addition to the online Second Chance sale, we will also be closing the entries for the June sale on Friday as well.

Entering both the Second Chance sale and the June sale: 

  • If you want to be in the main catalog for the June sale AND the Second Chance sale you will incur two entry fees.
  • As an alternative, horses can first enter the Second Chance sale and if unsold can then enter the June sale as a supplement.

IMPORTANT NOTICES

  • Horses entered in this sale will retain the Consignor, hip number, pedigree, media and Repository information from the 2024 October Yearling Sale. 
  • Complete Repository Studies are REQUIRED for horses in this sale. 
  • All horses are REQUIRED to have a walking video available for buyers in this online sale. Horses that did not have a walking video for the October Yearling Sale must submit a video in order to enter this sale. 
  • Paperwork on file with OBS for the October Yearling sale will be used for this sale. 
  • As an accommodation to horses entered in this sale, OBS will allow horses to ship in to their original stalls to be available for inspection by potential buyers on 10/28/24. This is NOT required. 
  • Entered horses MUST be available be available for inspections at their location. Buyers may contact Consignors directly to schedule inspection appointments. 
  • For the Timed Auction format, all reserves will be LIVE MONEY ONLY.

PRESS RELEASE

As part of its ongoing commitment to its horsemen and supporters, Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company announced today it will launch OBSOnline, their new digital platform, with an online auction for horses who failed to meet their reserve or were withdrawn from the 2024 October Yearling Sale.

Entries for the timed online auction will close on Oct. 18. Bidding will open on Oct. 24 and close on Oct. 30.

The October Yearling Sale was originally scheduled to run from Oct. 8-9. Due to the threat of Hurricane Milton, OBS officials made the decision to move the start date of the sale up one day in the interest of the safety and welfare of the horses and sale participants.

The October Yearling Sale held an abbreviated opening session on Oct. 7. The sale then concluded Oct. 8.

“We felt providing this opportunity to the horses that were either bought back or scratched from our yearling sale was important,” said OBS Director of Sales Tod Wojciechowski. “I think it is obvious that Hurricane Milton impacted the travel of buyers to the sale. By placing these horses in the online sale format, it will give buyers a second chance. We are appreciative of the collaborative effort of the consignors, buyers, staff, board members and auction team to be able to react to the pending storm and allow us to conduct the sale a day earlier than originally planned. This was not an easy decision or a simple task to implement, so it was important for everybody to pull together to make it happen.”

Those who choose to participate in the online sale will not have to pay an entry fee. There will also be reduced commissions. Consignors will have the option of bringing the yearlings to OBS for inspection on Monday, Oct. 28.

Entry forms for the OBSOnline October 2024 auction can be found at obssales.com or in hard copy at the OBS office.

Additional OBSOnline Auctions Set for December and January

OBSOnline will also hold timed auctions in December and January. The December 2024 online sale will be open to all horses while the January online sale will be limited to 2-year-olds and Horses of Racing Age. The January online sale will open for bidding during the OBS January 2025 Winter Mixed Sale live auction, which runs from Jan. 28-29. The online sale will close on Jan. 30.

A unique component to the OBSOnline December and January Sale will be an optional under tack show. 

“Consignors will have the opportunity to showcase their unraced prospects or those horses without recent form with an electronically timed work over the OBS track,” said OBS President Tom Ventura. “These workouts will be videotaped and posted with each horse.”
